Tickets for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games go on sale in 2011. Around eight million tickets will be available for the Olympic Games, with another 1.5m for the Paralympic Games. The action will be centred on the Olympic Park in east London, home to the main Olympic Stadium and other new venues. It will also be home to about 17,000 athletes and officials at its Olympic peak, as 26 different sports come together for 17 days of sport. Other events such as the Football tournament and Sailing will take place outside London.

Just over two weeks later, the Park and the Olympic Village which houses all the competitors will welcome the Paralympic Games and competition across 19 sports.

Tickets for both events will go on sale from 2011 and, subject to availability, remain on sale until the start of every event. Details of how to purchase tickets will be announced nearer the time.

With full stadia a key objective, tickets will be priced fairly. London will aim to repeat the success of the Manchester Commonwealth Games, when 90 per cent of seats were sold.  Each ticket will also include free travel on London`s public transport system for the day of the event, to encourage spectators to use the transport system and take in the festivities throughout the city. In addition, some of the events will be free. These will include the Road Cycling and Marathon both largely staged on the streets of London as well as the Triathlon in Hyde Park.
